Bugatti Galibier to Go Ahead
VW bigwigs are just weeks away from deciding if they should produce the million pound Bugatti Galibier in to production.
The powerful and plush four seater which was unveiled as a concept car for the Frankfurt Motor Show two years ago is odds on to succeed the Bugatti Veyron and could be in the Galibiers owners driveways as early as autumn 2013 if the VW chiefs give it the thumbs up.
Wolfgang Durheimer said that engineers have been “deeply involved” with the car for many months. The Galibier sites on a unique chassis and running gear, but uses the same 8 litre W16 engine as the Veyron, which may use a refined version of its unique eight-speed gear box that is built in the UK.
It’s nice to dream and think about owning a Gailiber, or even a Veyron, but if you visit your local used cars London dealer, you could by a car that you could “pretend” to be a Bugatti!
The Bugatti Galibier was proposed with a 900bhp, twin-supercharged version of the Veyron’s 987bhpm quad-turbo W16 engine, but it’s thought that the Galibier will need a lot more power in production.
Durheimer believes the car needs 1,000+bhp. He also commended “as long as I’m around, it must be the fastest thing on the road”. This means the Galibier will need a sub-3 second 0-60 mph time and go beyond the 240mph barrier.
Bugatti believe that most sales of the Galibier will go to those who own Veyron’s. Durheimer believes that over time, there may be a Bugatti range, but that’s not for some time yet. The price for one of these Bugatti family cars? Well, you will not get much change from £1,5 million.
